GOALS

Excellence in the care of critically injured patients requires increasingly sophisticated, integrated, and systematic approaches. The goal of this symposium is to provide both broad evidence-based continuing education, and state-of the art updates, to advance the knowledge, decision-making, technical skills, communication, and leadership of trauma care providers and multidisciplinary trauma teams.

EDUCATIONAL METHODS

Interactive lectures, panel discussions on controversial topics, and live simulation performance.

 

OBJECTIVES

  1. Describe the latest science behind evolving clinical approaches for optimal care of injured and critically ill surgical patients 

  2. Discuss principles and importance of non-technical skill acquisition for trauma teams

  3. Address experiences and consider lessons learned from trauma teams facing humanitarian crises

  4. Review current and future states of quality improvement in trauma care

  5. Discuss evolving concepts in surgical critical care, including physiologic monitoring, massive transfusion, and chest wall trauma

  6. Describe advances related to orthopedic evaluation and management for trauma patients 

TARGET AUDIENCE

The course is designed for ALL key members of high-functioning trauma, emergency, and critical care teams, including:

  • Nursing staff working in Level I-IV trauma centers and intensive care units

  • Mid-level trauma providers

  • Trauma coordinators

  • Surgical residents

  • Emergency physicians

  • Trauma surgeons and community general surgeons

  • Pre-Hospital personnel
